Dick O’Gorman’s Career in Bloodstock

With nearly 50 years of experience in the bloodstock industry Dick O’Gorman is one of the most recognisable and respected figures at the sales ring.  Dick O’Gorman’s bloodstock career began in the 1970’s when he started working for Newmarket Bloodstock Agency.  During his time there O’Gorman was responsible for the purchase of many top class horses including dual Oaks winner Fair Salinia and Champion Two-Year-Old Manado.

O’Gorman then went on to set up on his own agency, forming Richard O’Gorman Bloodstock in 1980. The highlights of Dick’s numerous successful purchases include the high class performer Reel Buddy, who was a Group 1 winner when victorious in the Sussex Stakes for trainer Richard Hannon Snr, and the outstanding sprinter Superpower, to name a few.

Dick O’Gorman’s bloodstock expertise were soon sought out by Godolphin and it was as a consultant for the Sheikh Mohammed organisation that Dick began his association with John Ferguson and Mark McStay.  Working closely together, O’Gorman formed a hugely successful and prosperous partnership with Ferguson and McStay.  Their purchases include Classic winners Island Sands, who was an impressive winner of the 2000 Guineas, and Rule of Law who triumphed in the St Leger. Other notable performers purchased by the formidable team of O’Gorman, Ferguson and McStay included Group One winners Hawkbill, Vale Of York, Goodricke and Passion For Gold.

Dick O’Gorman provides not only years of experience but also, most importantly, solid results and with the existing professional relationships with John Ferguson and Mark McStay. It was a natural step for him to be brought on board as a Consultant to the Avenue Bloodstock team. He will undoubtedly prove to be a huge asset to both Avenue and their clients.
