Finche on song at Randwick

Finche, a 2018 private purchase by Avenue Bloodstock, showed an impressive turn of foot to land G3 Kingston Town Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday.  Settled in behind the pacesetting Stampede, Finche devoured the ground the last furlong to win by a neck, installing him as the new favourite for the 2019 Melbourne Cup.

Winning trainer Chris Waller said of Finche’s performance: “He’s a pretty good horse.  We’ll have to go home and map out a suitable plan (for the Melbourne Cup). He’s a very talented horse. We look forward to getting him there.”

Jockey Kieren McEvoy said, “He’s a lovely big horse. He put up a great performance in the Melbourne Cup last year and it was a good first run back.  Today, second up, he was able to get a nice trail and get out when we wanted to. Chris said just build him up and give him a nice last 600m, which we were able to do. It feels like he will stay all day.”

Congratulations to all connections.
