One thing that hasn’t been affected by Covid in 2020 is the quality of yearlings available at public auction.  This has never been more true than at the Goffs’ Orby Sale and the Goffs’ Sportsman’s Sale.

Among the purchases, Lot 221, a very special Invincible Spirit colt out of the consistent, Black-type producing mare, KATE THE GREAT.  This colt had a great walk and attitude.  He is a half-brother to the speedy G3wG1p EASTERN IMPACT, LwG3p MISS KATIE MAE and 2020 G3p winner, Summerghand.  In addition to being by one of the most influential sire-of-sires, he is from the family of the legendary Japanese phenom DEEP IMPACT.  He was purchased for £350,000 for a long-standing family friend and will go in training in the UK or Ireland (as will Lots 269 and 355).

Lot 269, this athletic colt by Nathaniel has a lot happening on his page.  His dam, G3w MAJESTIC DUBAWI, is the dam of ISABELLA GILES, one of the top two-year-old fillies of 2020.  She is now has won four of her five starts including the G2 Rockfel S and the G3 Prestige S, both updates since the catalogue was printed.  He is also a half-brother to LwG3p MAJESTIC COLT and is from the family of G1w SOVIET LINE.  He was purchased for £100,000.

Lot 355, a g00d-looking colt by Coolmore sire Australia.  This colt’s two-year-old full brother, ACE AUSSIE, is now a winner after getting off the mark impressively in a maiden for trainer Jessica Harrington.  He is out of the Black-type producing mare Queenscliff and a three-parts brother to LwG2p GUISEPPE GARIBALDI.  His dam is an own sister to G3wG1p CARRIBEAN SUNSET and he is from the family of Champion QUEBRADA and G1w QUEEN TO CONQUER.  He was purchased for £78,000.

Lot 458, a son of Frankel, he is from one of the finest families in the studbook.  This colt is out of Listed-placed winner Ventura, producer of Champion MOOLIGHT CLOUD and LwG2p CEDAR MOUNTAIN and Extreme Fast, runner-up in the 2020 Prix de Liancourt (L).  His second dam is G3wG1p WEDDING BOUQUET and he is from the family of Champions GENEROUS, IMAGINE and G1 winner HORATIO NELSON.  Purchased for £145,000, he is heading to the exciting, up-and-coming Newmarket trainer James Ferguson.

Prior to the Orby Sale, we purchased two, top-notch individuals from the Sportsman’s Sale.

Lot 641, a standout filly by the phenomenal first-season sire Mehmas.  This filly was purchased for our American friends, Medallion Racing.  She is a half-sister to G2wG1p BEAU RECALL (who has been campaigning for Medallion in the States and recently notched another win in the G2 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile).  She is also a half-sister to Lp Coolminx and from the family of LwG2p WINGED D’ARGENT.  She was purchased for £28,000.

Lot 831, a colt from the first crop of Classic winner Galileo Gold.  He is the first foal out of the winning, two-year-old mare, TARA CELEB.  His dam is a half-sister to G3w LADY GLORIA and is from the family of G3wG2p NADWAH and G3w MUSADIF.  He was purchased for £15,000 and will be joining the team of successful Newmarket trainer George Boughey, whose current strike rate for 2020 is a whopping 26%.

The Avenue Bloodstock team will be at Newmarket for the upcoming Tattersalls’ October Yearling Sales.  Please contact Mark McStay on +44 (0)7810 857184 if we can be of help.
