Getting To Know You – Nico Archdale

One of the exciting highlights of 2020 was the addition of Nico Archdale to the Avenue Bloodstock team. In the wake of Covid-19, we thought a socially-distanced-get-to-know-you piece might be of benefit.
Nico, graduated from the Godolphin Flying Start course in July of 2020. He also has a Master of Arts in Russian Studies from the Univehttp://avenuebloodstock.com/wp-admin/plugin-install.phprsity of Edinburgh and completed the National Stud Diploma course in Newmarket. He gained practical experience working for Charlie Fellowes as a pupil assistant trainer.
We asked Nico a few questions so you could get to know a bit more about him.
Favourite Horse of all time?
Sea the Stars and Frankel were the greats for me at the time when I was first exposed to and getting into the sport. But over the last few years I’ve loved Enable, absolute Queen.
Favourite Racecourse?
A toss-up between Goodwood and Ascot. The buzz and week’s racing of the Royal Meeting is hard to beat, so probably Ascot.
Earliest Racing Memory?
Watching Red Marauder win the Grand National at home when I was 8 with the additional excitement of collecting a huge £20 in the sweepstake.
Favourite Restaurant?
I don’t really have one. I like to cook myself…a bit of an aspiring chef, albeit not a very good one!
Favourite Sport outside racing?
I’m a huge rugby fan. Praying that Wales have a big turnaround this Six Nations!
Marmite Love or Hate?
Weirdly Neither.
Biggest Career Influence?
Angus Gold. I was lucky enough to spend time with him at the Tattersalls December Foal sales back whilst on the Flying Start programme. He has since been a great mentor to me over the last few years.
What race would you most like to win?
I suppose any! But really, everyone wants to win the Epsom Derby don’t they? Its got to be the one. The Arc would be second.
Ambition for 2021?!
To have bought a winner and hopefully buy a few more for the future!
5 Desert Island Discs
Hard to pick just 5…. Quite a random selection but:
Bongo Bong – by Manu Chao
Chasing Rubies – by Hudson Taylor
White flag – by Dido
Baby Its you – by London Grammar
Somewhere over the rainbow – the version by the Hawaiian Israel Kamakawiwo’ole!
Group 3 success for exciting Frankel filly Magical Hope
A fruitful season looks likely for Magical Hope off the back of her easy win in the Group 3 Darley Munster Oaks at Cork on Friday evening. Trained by Paddy Twomey, the daughter of Frankel, who was bought by Avenue Bloodstock on behalf of owners Steve Weston, Ballylinch Stud, Mrs Paul Shanahan and P J […]
Champion Porta Fortuna brilliant in G2 return to cap Curragh treble
Porta Fortuna made a brilliant return to the track for Medallion Racing, Steve Weston, Reeves Thoroughbreds and Barry Fowler on Sunday when taking the Group 2 Lanwades Stud Stakes to cap a winning treble for horses purchased by Avenue Bloodstock. Shouldering a penalty and making her first start since November, last year’s Cartier Champion 3yo […]
Listed Burradon Stakes success for Glittering Legend
Glittering Legend, a yearling purchase on behalf of Bon Ho, continued on his impressive upward trajectory on Friday when taking the Listed Burradon Stakes at Newcastle. His win opened a high-profile double for Bon Ho, whose colours were later carried to victory by breeze-up purchase Wonder Legend in the £175,000 two-mile handicap. Fresh off a […]
