Yearling purchase Sea Theme wins Galtres Stakes

Sheikh Juma al Maktoum’s Sea Theme, a yearling purchase by Avenue Bloodstock, continued her upward curve in fine style on Thursday when successful in the Listed Galtres Stakes at York.

Making only her third start for William Haggas following a wide-margin novice win at Doncaster last time out, the daughter of Sea The Stars was brought with a strong run by Tom Marquand to take it up inside the final furlong. One Evening and Tregony both came with a late challenge but Sea Theme had enough in reserve to repel those fillies and win by a head.

“Sea Theme is a tough filly,” said William Haggas. “She did that well as she’s pretty inexperienced, Tom said she didn’t know what she was doing. She had a race today, they took no prisoners, but she could possibly run in the Park Hill if she is all right.

“She battled hard and she’s clearly got ability. I always felt she wanted top of the ground as she’s such a fluent mover. She won on the soft at Doncaster when I wanted to pull her out, but the owner said to let her take her chance and I’m glad we did. She seems to go on most ground, so I suppose she’s going to be pretty good.”

Sea Theme is now the winner of two of three starts for Sheikh Juma al Maktoum. She was purchased by Avenue Bloodstock on behalf of her owner from the Knocktoran Stud draft at the 2021 Arqana August Sale. Bred by C-Squared Investments, she is out of the G3 winner Mayhem and a member of the famous Solo De Lune family.
