Zavateri impressive in July Stakes

Many congratulations to John and Tanya Gunther, breeders of the impressive Group 2 Kingdom Of Bahrain July Stakes winner Zavateri during the first day of Newmarket’s July meeting on Thursday.

The Without Parole colt is the first foal out of Zeroua, who was bought by Avenue Bloodstock on behalf of the Gunthers at the 2021 Arqana December Sale.

Owned by Mick and Janice Mariscotti and trained by Eve Johnson Houghton, Zavateri won well on his debut at Salisbury and took the step up in class in his stride on Thursday, coming with a sweeping run under Charles Bishop to score by a length from Do Or Do Not.

“I love this horse, I always have done,” said Eve Johnson Houghton. “Everyone said why don’t you go for a novice but I said why do you want to go for a novice and get beaten with a penalty by a Group horse? Come to a Group race. Zavateri is one of the nicest I’ve had and he’s done nothing wrong so far.”

Dam Zeroua was bred by Aga Khan Studs and hails from one of their most iconic families as a granddaughter of champion Zarkava.
